HISTORY
The Bulgarian Rose State Laboratory is an institution with over 90 years of history, inextricably linked to the development and preservation of Bulgaria's most valuable product – rose oil.
It all began in 1929, when Tsar Boris III issued a decree establishing the Technical Laboratory at the State Agricultural and Cooperative Bank. Its main mission is to use scientific methods and technologies to guarantee the quality of rose oil exported abroad under the brand name BULGARIAN ROSE OIL.
In 1934, the building housing the laboratory was transferred to the Council of Ministers of the Kingdom of Bulgaria, and a year later, in 1935, Tsar Boris III issued a decree regulating the production and sale of rose oil. This act laid the foundations for state regulation of rose production, which to this day guarantees the international prestige and authenticity of Bulgarian oil.
After nationalization in 1947, when banks were united under the leadership of the Bulgarian National Bank, the Technical Laboratory ceased its activities. However, its legacy lives on through the creation of the Bulgarian Rose State Laboratory, which has taken on the mission of preserving the quality of Bulgaria's essential gold.

Treasury for rose oil
In the heart of Sofia lies one of Bulgaria's most precious treasures – the unique state treasury for rose oil. For more than 90 years, it has been home to the country's true "golden essence" – rose oil from the Rosa Damascena variety.
In 2022, a new beginning was made – NIIS and the Bulgarian Development Bank signed an agreement allowing rose oil from the vault to be used as collateral for loans. Thus, tradition met modern financial instruments in support of producers.
Our mission
The Bulgarian Rose State Laboratory is the guardian of Bulgaria's most precious natural and cultural symbol – rose oil from Rosa Damascena. Our mission is to preserve its authenticity and strengthen its global reputation by combining tradition with the most advanced scientific methods.
Through our unique state treasury, we create security and trust—not only for producers and traders, but also for the generations that will inherit this priceless wealth. For us, each bottle is not just a product, but a piece of Bulgaria's history and identity.
